Oh the mug cake! It’s easy, it’s quick, and it makes just one cake at a time. It reduces waste, and keeps the cake fresh and hot because you can just pretty much eat it after it’s done in the microwave, which means you are minutes away from CAKE.

Here are 7 of our favorites and they can truly satisfy almost any flavor craving or dietary need you need to work with when it comes to having sweets!

Microwavable Mug Cake Ideas:

3-Ingredient Mug Cake

3 ingredient mug cake.

Consider this your baseline chocolate-based mug cake recipe. It’s ready in less than five minutes. And it’s entirely egg-free. It’s literally flour, Nutella, and milk. Feel free to sprinkle some chocolate chips, confectioners’ sugar, or chopped nuts (hazelnuts, naturally!) on top if you like, before serving. It takes well to substitutions with other regular flours containing gluten (cake or pastry) and even a gluten-free baking blend will work. We don’t recommend oat, almond, or coconut with this recipe as the texture won’t be right.

Oreo Mug Cake

Oreo mug cake.

It’s America’s favorite cookie, in mug cake form. Guys, this is so decadent and delicious, you’re going to love it. This one is even FASTER than the 3-ingredient cake because it only needs two ingredients. In two minutes you have a gooey, soft and moist cake that both kids and adults will love. All you need to do is mash up some Oreos in a mug and add milk, and then microwave. Sounds too good to be true, but we PROMISE you, it is true!

Keto Carrot Cake Mug Cake

Who doesn’t love carrot cake? It’s definitely one of those secret faves for a lot of people, but honestly they can be a TON of work. The microwave makes it a lot easier because you can shortcut this recipe using shredded carrots from the grocery store. It’s also a cake that uses almond flour for a low-carb, gluten-free experience. This recipe even includes a cream cheese frosting which is entirely optional but totally worth it!

Protein Mug Cake

Cake with protein? Wow! This one has 36 grams of protein in JUST ONE MUG CAKE. It’s naturally gluten-free and dairy-free. It’s made with oat flour, cocoa powder, protein powder, along with leaveners such as baking powder, milk, and brown sugar. Add some chocolate chips if you like. The result? A moist, chocolatey cake with fluffy texture that happens to deliver on protein, making it an incredible snack or maybe even a meal replacement!

Peanut Butter Mug Cake

If we have one with Nutella, you better believe we’ve got one for you with peanut butter, too, although any nut butter would work here. This one requires a few more ingredients than our Nutella mug cake, but it’s worth it! Prep as many as you want, when you want. Just make sure you have natural peanut butter (it works better with that kind), coconut oil, and granulated sugar, and the rest of the ingredients are pantry staples you’d use in any baking project. Score! Load the top with some mini chocolate chips when it’s warm. So good.

Keto Birthday Cake Mug Cake

Yeah, there’s a bit of a trend here. If you are looking for the cutest birthday cake that’s low in sugar, you have come to the right place. You’ll need some almond flour, erythritol sweetener, and some fun sprinkles (sugar free if that’s how you need it), but this is the cutest, tastiest version of a birthday cake in mug form that we’ve ever found.

Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

If you love cinnamon and sugar, this is the mug cake for you! You just need some standard ingredients like flour, sugar, cinnamon and baking powder, along with  milk, melted butter, and some vanilla extract. No egg required! It tastes like this childhood favorite cookie, but in cake form. Yum!
